Psychological Assessment

A thorough psychological assessment can be transformative, giving your child, your family, and their school a clear picture of how your child thinks, learns, and experiences the world. It opens doors to the right support.

WHY ASSESSMENT MATTERS

Understanding your child changes everything.

Many children who struggle at school, at home, or with friendships are not being difficult, they are experiencing the world differently. A psychological assessment replaces guesswork with clarity.

At Strength Psychology, assessment is not a box-ticking exercise. Our clinicians — with deep roots in Educational and Developmental Psychology — conduct thorough, evidence-based evaluations that result in detailed reports with real, practical recommendations.

Those reports matter beyond the consultation room. They can be used to access funding, formal accommodations at school, and to guide the ongoing work of any clinician supporting your child.

WHAT A STRENGTH ASSESSMENT REPORT CAN UNLOCK

ASSESSMENT TYPES

ADHD Assessment

A comprehensive evaluation of attention, executive functioning, and behaviour across home and school settings. Includes standardised rating scales, cognitive testing, and clinical interview with parents and, where appropriate, teachers.

Autism Assessment (ASD)

A thorough assessment of social communication, sensory processing, and behaviour using gold-standard tools. Our clinicians take a neurodiversity-affirming approach, recognising autism as a difference, not a deficit.

Specific Learning Disorder Assessment

Evaluation of reading, writing, mathematics, and processing to identify dyslexia, dyscalculia, or other specific learning difficulties. Reports include practical recommendations for schools and tutors.

Cognitive Assessment

Assessment of intellectual ability, processing speed, working memory, and reasoning. Useful for understanding a child's learning profile, identifying giftedness, or supporting school placement decisions.

Vocational Assessment

For older adolescents exploring career pathways, vocational assessment helps identify strengths, interests, and cognitive profile to inform subject selection and future planning.

THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS

What to expect, step by step.

Assessments are different to counselling, they involve multiple components across several appointments. Here's how it typically works.

1

Initial enquiry

Send us a message via the Contact page. A member of our team will call you to understand your concerns and confirm whether an assessment is the right pathway.

2

Intake & history gathering

Your clinician collects developmental history, school reports, previous assessments, and completes standardised rating scales with parents and teachers.

3

Assessment sessions

Your child completes a series of structured tasks and activities with the clinician. Sessions are designed to be engaging, with breaks as needed.

4

Scoring & report writing

Results are analysed and compiled into a comprehensive written report with a full profile of findings and tailored recommendations.

5

Feedback session

Your clinician walks you through the findings in a dedicated feedback appointment, answering your questions and explaining what comes next.

FEES & FUNDING

What does an assessment cost?

Psychological assessments are priced separately to counselling sessions. We're transparent about how funding works so there are no surprises.
